The first day of the tournament was played in very pleasant May sunshine all day for what proved to be a long day. Play in the 'A' block started a bit late because a couple of the courts were having a fresh haircut finished, but nobody seemed too bothered about that. Thereafter play continued all day with just a short lunch break, with the last game of the day between Neil Adams and Jonathan Smith only finishing at 8:35pm. The sprinklers in the newly-installed irrigation system were set to come on at 8pm, but only scheduled on alternate days, and fortunately this wasn't one of them! The second day was cloudier and cooler, but thankfully remained dry.

In the all-play-all 'B' block of 6 players Stephen Harbron was on good form, losing only to Richard Peperell, and he emerged at the end of the tournament as the only player in his block with 4/5 to win the Cassuiobury Salver.

Meanwhile in the 'A' block of 10 players, played with a Flexible Swiss format, Andrew Winn was on top form and completed the tournament undefeated on 100% from his 5 games to win the Cassiobury Cup.

But perhaps the most dramatic finish was in the last game of the second day between Don Beck and Jonathan Smith to decide the last place in the block, played to a time limit in order to bring the event to a timely close. In his last turn when time was called, Jonathan ran Rover and pegged out one of his balls to go 2 points up, leaving Don's two balls cross-wired. Jonathan's other ball and one of Don's balls were both for peg. So Don's only option for his final turn was to score 2 points to draw level by running Rover and pegging out with his backward ball to force a sudden-death 2-ball ending with both remaining balls for peg. This required hitting a 25-yarder at Don's other ball near corner IV. Don dramatically hit the 25-yarder, managed to approach Rover from 4 yards sideways off partner, ran a long hoop... and then missed the 4-yard return roquet to deny him an easy peg-out! leaving Jonathan with a narrow +1(T) win.
